The cozy air enveloped Cindy standing in the doorway daydreaming of what it must be to dance the floor once again like when her mother was alive. She saw ballgowns twirling all around her. The prince was here to romance Karren her young, evil cousin. Cindy didn’t have a picture of what the prince looked like. At the same time she knew her role as a servant and was alright with that, but she hated how Karren treated her brother, Caroline, and her. Cindy was a little bitter but her other cousin, Henry made his sister behavior…bearable, since he was not evil like the rest of his family. Correction, Cindy was bitter to the rest of Henry’s family, but not him. They had a good relationship because Henry was different…nicer than his family.
Cindy saw Henry out on the dance floor with a beautiful girl. He the same bored look he had every time he danced with anyone else then her or Caroline. His father was trying to find a bride for him, that’s why there had been an increase of parties. Henry locked eyes with Cindy. The dance ended, and he walked over to her, and asked her for the dance.
“What will your dad say?” she covering her mouth in fake shock.
Laughing, Henry took Cindy’s hand pulling her out to the dance floor. His hands were big compared to hers but when she was with him she felt as if nothing or no one could get her. Henry had done this before at his dad’s parties, and Cindy thought he was a good dancer for being so lanky. When she was dancing with him, he made her feel safe.
In the midst of a turn, she saw her uncle, Lord Andros, in front of them angry, “Stop this, this instant. Cindy, go get some more food for the party. Henry come with me and I’ll introduce you to a wonderful family who has many connections.” They did as instructed begrudgingly. Henry also made his father’s behavior bearable. Without Henry, Cindy’s life would be day in day out yelling about how lazy she was.
As she left the ballroom, she ran into someone dressed fine clothes. “Oh my gosh, I’m sorry… No worries I wasn’t -”they said to each other. She looked at this stranger, and felt a connection with him. His brown eyes were like coffee brown which was a contrast to her blue eyes. At the same time they went with his olive skin and black hair which was nicely groomed but messy at the same time.
He shock his head, like he was trying to snap himself back to reality, “I know this may be weird but-”
“No, I don’t believe we have met before,” Cindy said before he could finish his sentence.
“-but do you want to dance?” the stranger said.
“Oh…yes I would love to, but let me change into something else,”Cindy said surprised.
When she reached the kitchen, and was going up to her room to get the dress she had kept from when her mother was alive, Caroline stopped her, “What’s the rush?
“A handsome guy asked me to dance with him. I have to rush because he might not wait that long for me.”
“I’ll help,” Caroline said going after Cindy. Before she knew it, Caroline had put Cindy’s long light brown hair up in a beautiful way, and she was in her mom’s dress ready to meet the handsome stranger. Cindy always hated her hair. She wish it would make up its mind whether it wanted to be brown like her mothers or blonde like Carolines
She walked out of the kitchen, almost forgetting extra food. If she didn’t have the food, she would get yelled at for being lazy or something like that. But Caroline grabbed the food for Cindy, so she could enjoy herself.
“I apologize, I didn’t introduce myself. I’m Steve, what’s your name?.” the stranger said when Cindy had come down from her room. Steve had been waiting outside the ballroom for her.
“I’m Cinderelle, but everyone calls me Cindy,” she said blushing as Steve extended his hand to her. When they got to the dance floor, Cindy realized that Steve was a better dancer than Henry, and it was like dancing with an old friend. She could feel Queen Jordina’s, the evil queen and Henry’s mother, eyes watching them in disgust, but she did not care. It had been a long time since someone other than Henry had asked her to dance, and she would enjoy every moment she could
Karren walked over, “Cindy, don’t you have some dishes to clean?” stealing Steve away from her.
Things came together in Cindy’s head, and she rolled her eyes knowing she couldn’t keep Steve because Karren always got her way no matter what. Karren could just cry to her father or worse her mother, Queen Jordina who could cast a spell which could cause a terrible amount of hurt to make sure that her little princess got what she wanted.
“Karren, I would prefer to dance with Cindy,” Steve said weaseled out of Karren’s reach awkwardly and reaching out to Cindy; surprising her, and making her think that things were about to change. He turned toward Cindy and said, “Where did you go on vacation when you were a kid?
Oh, it was hard for Cindy to think that far back. There was a black curtain in her mind where her memories of vacations were. “All I can remember is my family and me on a beach with one servant with us. But it’s strange that servant was not our servant.”
“You were taken from a rich family?” Steve said.
“No, my mother was a lady of the nobility when I was a child.”
“Where is she? I would like to meet her,” Steve said glancing around.
“She was killed.” she said looking at her feet.
“I’m s-”
“Your highness, please go with Karren,” a man interrupted pleading with the prince.
“Philip, no, I want to dance with Cindy, not Karren. I’ll take what the queen has dished out for you.” Steve said with power and fear in his voice. Even though Queen Jordina was Karren’s mother and Lord Andros her father, they divorced seven years ago after the king’s wife, Genevieve, died. Shortly before the death Cindy’s father was murdered, so everyone thought. Cindy’s mother wanted her father’s brother to be around because she wanted a father figure for Cindy and her brother, Jack. Rather quickly Queen Genevieve’s death, the king re-married to Queen Jordina. A year later, Cindy’s mom died, and Cindy and Jack had been in servitude to their family ever since.
